Harri Aalto was born in Finland and moved to Toronto, Canada, at the age of five. During his teenage years, Harri attended an art high school where he studied drawing, painting, sculpture, and graphic arts. Later, Harri went to the Ontario College of Art where he continued his studies in fine arts. He graduated with honors in 1968. From 1968 through 1978, Harri established his reputation as a fine artist—with pencil drawings, oil and water color paintings, and sculpture in wood and marble—in major public and private collections.
